Why Wigs Are Beneficial, NOT Embarrassing!
You may have heard people calling wig-wearers fake and insecure but this is the furthest thing from the truth! My opinion is that it takes a whole lot of confidence to own your look whether it’s with a wig or without one— no sign of insecurity there!
Wigs are beneficial in that they allow you to protect your natural hair. When wearing your wig, you don’t need to style your natural hair as often as you would so it’s protected from everyday styling-related damage. Wigs are also great at hiding any hair-related issues such as hair loss.
With that being said, let’s take a look at the benefits of wearing a wig:
- Confidence after hair loss. Wigs and hairpieces can drastically improve someones confidence. Wearing a wig can help people feel more like themselves after suffering hair loss. Hair loss can be due to health conditions such as chemotherapy treatment in cancer patients, alopecia, or hormonal changes.
- A form of self-expression. Wigs allow you to be creative with your look and achieve styles, colours, and cuts that may not be possible on your natural hair! Wigs can be a creative outlet and allow people to express their individuality.
- Damage control. Wearing a wig can give your natural hair the opportunity to take break from heat styling tools such as hairdryers, hair straighteners or curling wands. This break can provide the time needed restore your hair and allow it to repair itself from constant heat damage.
- Grow your own hair underneath. Wearing a wig can also allow you to achieve your desired look while you wait for your natural hair to grow to the desired length! You no longer need to wait for your hair to grow before you get the look you want!
- Professional performance. Many actors, performers and dancers utilize wigs due to the fact that they are quick, easy and convenient to change from one character to another. This is something that would be virtually impossible if you had to use your real hair.
With that being said, many celebrities take it upon themselves to use wigs regularly for a variety of reasons! Keep reading to find out which of your favorite celebrities wears a wig—you will be surprised!

Building Your Wig Confidence
I know owning your look and being confident is easier said than done, but you can develop this confidence with a little time and effort! You just need to take baby steps.
The best way to build your confidence when wearing your wig is to put it on and go somewhere where no one knows you. Try the grocery store or even a cafe. There’ll be no one you know pointing out that your hair looks different, and you get to take your wig out without feeling awkward that you look too different.

Here’s how to build up your wig confidence:
- Get acquainted with your wig. Start out by wearing your wig when you are alone or at home with close family. Take some time to get comfortable with it by looking at yourself in the mirror with it on and playing around with it.
- Wear your wig out for short periods of time. Once you are comfortable with having your wig on, wear it to run errands in a quiet part of your neighborhood. This way you will get to practice seeing others when you have your wig on and slowly build up your confidence. You also won’t have to worry about bumping into people you know just yet!
- Friends and family. When you feel comfortable, wear your wig around close friends and family who won’t judge you. Perhaps try having people over at your house where you feel comfortable and at ease.
- Wear your wig to a crowded place. Lastly, try and wear your wig out to public spaces with large crowds. People will probably be too busy to even notice you or your wig and you can get used to large crowds of people seeing your new look without feeling like people are focused solely on your wig.
Final Thoughts
Try your best to own your look, there is nothing embarrassing about wearing a wig! If anyone tries to knock down your confidence by saying something unkind, just remember that they are probably projecting their own insecurities on to others. As long as you feel good in your wig, there is no need to take any notice of other people’s opinions!
