Are Lace Front Wigs Hot And Uncomfortable? ANSWERED!

There is nothing worse than having a wig that makes you feel really hot and has you consistently trying to readjust it because it’s just so uncomfortable! I have researched whether this is the case for lace front wigs, and here is what I found.

Lace front wigs made from quality materials aren’t hot or uncomfortable; materials like swiss lace and 100% Remy human hair will make your wig both airy and comfortable. To avoid discomfort, choose wigs made from high-quality raw materials, install them correctly (glue or clips), and opt for short wigs in the summer if you live in humid climates.

Keep reading to find out what aspects of the lace front wig make it so comfortable to wear, as well as how you can make sure you are fitting and wearing yours correctly for optimum comfort!

What Makes Lace Front Wigs So Cool & Comfortable?

Lace front wigs are the coolest and comfortable wigs on the market due as the wig base is made from lace, and lace is lightweight and airy, as we know. Swiss lace has tiny holes that allow for breathability even in warm and humid weather; it also delicate, which allows you to be comfortable when wearing your lace front wig.

The Cool Factor

The lace front wig is one of the best innovations in the wig market. The entire front of the wig base, beginning at one ear and ending at the other, is manufactured using lace. This lace is usually Swiss or French lace, which is both extremely thin and delicate. The wig hair on the lace part of the base of the wig is also individually sewn into the base.

So what exactly does this mean? In basic terms, wherever there is a lace present, the wig hair is individually sewn. This results in more room around the wig hair for airflow. This, combined with the thin lace used in the base of the wig along the front, allows for an even greater amount of airflow.

When it comes to wig wearing, the main cause of the wearer feeling hot and bothered when wearing their wig is because of a lack of airflow to their natural hair and scalp. We all tend to sweat on our scalps, especially in warmer weather.

Having a wig that is completely attached to your head with little to no airflow adds to increasing how hot one might feel. More airflow means feeling cooler, quicker. The lace front wig allows this and is a great alternative to your normal wig.

The Comfort Factor

The comfort factor regarding lace front wigs is a little more complicated than whether the lace front wig is cool or not. Being cool when worn is a characteristic solely influenced by the lace front wig, however, whether the wig is comfortable or not is dependant on the wearer.

If a lace front wig is properly fitted it is extremely comfortable, but this is influenced by a few factors. With that being said, let’s take a look at how you can prepare your hair for wig-wearer to ensure optimum comfort!

3 Mistakes To Avoid When Preparing Hair For Wig-Wearing

This is such an underrated factor of wig-wearing that majorly affects the wig wearing experience. The way that you prepare your hair before fitting your wig greatly affects how it looks and feels.

The most crucial thing to do when wearing a wig is to prep your hair. This is done by ensuring that your hair is laying flat and secured under your wig cap to prevent your wig from slipping or being bumpy and unnatural. You can secure your natural hair by braiding it, doing cornrows, or even pin curling it if you have long, fine, silky hair.

Proper preparation of your natural hair can be a lifesaver when it comes to the comfort of your wig. There are few aspects here, that if done incorrectly, can turn your wig wearing experience into a nightmare. Here are just a few examples:

01. Braiding that is far too tight.

Many of us use braiding as a form of protective styling beneath our wigs. This is great because it tends to even out the hair so there is no bulging beneath the wig and gives the assurance that your hair is properly protected.

However, it is so easy to go overboard when braiding your natural hair and make the braids far too tight. This creates a pulling sensation beneath your wig and causes tension on your scalp that can lead to tension headaches.

02. Clips incorrectly placed.

For others, clips are the best method to secure your natural hair. In most cases, wig wearers who use clips to prepare their natural hair for wig-wearing, generally have shorter hair. The problem with clips is that if they are incorrectly placed, these tend to dig into the scalp and cause extreme discomfort.

03. Incorrectly sized wig cap.

Another factor that impacts the level of comfort of your wig is your wig cap. The fit of your wig cap is extremely important. If your wig cap is too tight, it’ll leave you with a headache and marks on your head from the pressure. A wig cap that is too loose will leave you constantly re-adjusting and worrying about whether your natural hair will be revealed.

Is Your Lace Front Wig The Correct Size?

Another major reason your front lace wig is causing you discomfort is whether your wig is the correct size for your head. When buying a wig, you need to first ensure you have taken the time to measure your head correctly so that you do not end up buying a wig that is too big or too small.

To measure your head to determine your wig’s size, secure your hair in a braid or cornrows, making it flat, then use a cloth measuring tape to measure the circumference of your head. Make sure the tape is close to your head, then record the measurement. When you measure the front-to-nape, leave room for the crease at the nape of your neck.

Here is how you can measure your head to determine your wig size:

  • Ear To Ear (Around the back). Using a tape measure, start by putting the end of the measuring tape behind your one ear and move the tape around the back of your head, ending by the nape of your neck. Stop in the same area that you began but behind the opposite ear. Take note of the measurements.
  • Ear to Ear (around the front). Begin by placing the end of the tape at the beginning of your one ear and trail the tape over the front of your forehead area. End the measuring at the opposite ear, and be sure to take note of your measurements.
  • Ear to Ear (over the top). Start by placing the end of the measuring tape behind your one ear and trail the tape over the top of your head. End at the same spot that you started measuring, but behind the opposite ear. Take note of your findings.
  • Temple to Temple. Begin by placing the end of the measuring tape behind on top of the temple of your head and slide the tape around the back of your head. End at the same spot that you began but on the opposite temple. Record your findings.
  • Circumference of your head. Begin by placing the end of the measuring tape behind your one ear and trail the tape around the entire circumference of your head. End at the same spot that you began and take note of your findings.
  • Forehead to the nape of the neck. Begin by placing the end of the measuring tape at the center of your forehead, just along your hairline area. Next, trail the measuring tape over the top of your head. End at the nape of your neck and take note of your findings.

Wearing a wig that is too small.

Wearing a wig that is too small will leave your wig slipping off, adding pressure to your head and scalp and often revealing your natural hair. A wig that is too small can lead to tension headaches and even sweating because of the pressure on the scalp. This is the perfect definition of discomfort. No one wants to be worried about these seemingly insignificant factors when wearing their favorite wig.

Wearing a wig that is too big.

Oversized wigs also tend to slide to one side, depending on how they are fitted. They are often noticeably oversized and wig adhesive does not really have the complete effects that it should. Wearing an oversized wig will definitely make you uncomfortable.

Final Thoughts

Lace front wigs are a great investment. We have discovered that they are generally cool and comfortable wigs to wear. However, it is always great to remember that the way our wigs feel when we wear them is largely dependant on how we fit them. Spending time perfecting the way you fit your wig will always be a good idea.
